Waldhof – Agro-Ecological Research and Education Farm
History
The Waldhof foundation dates back to 1921. In 1986 the farm was acquired by the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück and reorganized into an agricultural research and education farm. After a three-year transition period from conventional to organic farming, the farm was certifi ed according to Biolandregulations in 1995.
Mission
The Waldhof-Farm contributes substantially to the teaching activities at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Landscape Architecture and provides excellent research facilities for all kind of research and development (R&D) projects focusing on organic farming.
Education support
The Waldhof-Farm is used to demonstrate agricultural farm practices on an organically managed farm for BSc and MSc programmes. Teaching and training lessons in the fi elds and in the stables help the students to anticipate the complex framework of management decisions at farm level. Furthermore the Waldhof-Farm assists students with projects for their BSc/MSc thesis.
Research support
At the Waldhof-Farm a wide range of applied R&D facilities are available. Field experiments on all aspects of crop production (e.g. soil tillage, soil fertility, nutritional quality of crops, precision farming) are conducted. Projects focusing on animal health and animal nutrition are important research areas. Private companies as well as partners from the public sector cooperate in many R&D projects.
