- Brief description
Consolidation of skills and competences at level C1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference, enabling academic communication skills appropriate in all respects in contexts specific to higher education and work.
Students are able to use the language effectively and flexibly in social and professional life or in training and study. At this level, students can use a variety of idiomatic expressions, enabling them to cover a wide range of topics in everyday and working life or in academic situations. The level aims to prepare students for a semester of study abroad at a partner university.
- Teaching and learning outcomes
- Development of a specialized vocabulary from the areas of business, corporate sustainability and consumer behavior, current economic developments, and the labor market, among others;
- Additional emerging word fields, from paper topics to be freely chosen by the students. These arise from current topics in the daily press and may include any area of business, technology, or society;
- Word formation, identification and use of key vocabulary, sentence structure, text structure;
- Other current topics from the press and other media;
- Reading, writing and discussion based on current short articles;
- Description of a problem and formulation of an opinion;
- Preparation and presentation of a paper in small groups, discussion of the problem areas presented in the papers;
- Controlled and free text production.

- Remark on the assessment methods
The portfolio exam is worth 100 points and consists of a one-hour written exam (K1), one, presentation (PR) and two oral exams (M). Each element is weighted with 25 points.

Presentation as part of the portfolio examination: approx. 10-15 minutes

- Recommended prior knowledge
Prior knowledge at B2 level (either by completing the previous modules or appropriate placement through the placement test).
- Knowledge Broadening
Students in this module are able to understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and also to grasp and classify their implicit meanings. They are familiar with the definition of specific technical terms, can identify and assign them and can independently research and present topics.
- Knowledge deepening
Consolidation, extension and application of grammatical structures in professional contexts. Idiomatic terms and structures can be described and pointed out.
- Application and Transfer
Students acquire and apply techniques of scientific work in the foreign language, such as reading and writing strategies, presentations and debates.
- Communication and Cooperation
Students are able to participate in (international) negotiations. They are also able to write complete presentations and detailed protocols and to actively participate in professional debates in the foreign language.

- Linkage to other modules
The English C1.2 module follows on from preceding English modules in which the knowledge and skills listed under the item "Recommended prior knowledge" are promoted.
Language modules also play an important role in the context of business studies, as they enable students to develop necessary language skills that are later required for international business relations.
