Climate-resilient, connected, digital

Our Research

Ideas for a better future – Healthy living in rural and urban areas

In the research field Agriculture and Food Systems, Landscape and Urban Development our researchers address current challenges like climate change, food security, the scarcity of natural resources, the decline of biodiversity, and increasing competition for land in rural and urban areas. Researchers from the fields of plant cultivation, animal husbandry, and food systems, as well as landscape and urban development, seek future-oriented solutions through interdisciplinary collaborations.

To this end, our scientists pool their knowledge from applied research and numerous transfer projects. They establish and intensify networks that promote intensive exchange with universities, organizations, public administrations and corporate partners along the supply chains as well as civil society. They develop sustainable business models for which they analyze the behavior and values of producers, consumers and stakeholder groups.

In this way, they help to protect the climate and biodiversity, establish more sustainable food systems and health-promoting nutrition, and develop ideas for sustainable agriculture and resilient landscapes and cities.

We believe in multifaceted and internationally networked research

This research field is particularly interdisciplinary and includes collaboration with researchers from business management and the social sciences, engineering sciences and agricultural system technologies, robotics, computer science and artificial intelligence, as well as environmental and urban planning sciences. It also involves the university’s own research infrastructure and regional innovation drivers. This allows us to further develop content from research and teaching and help facilitate business start-ups.
