Study Preparation Course for Prospective International Students and Refugees
STUDYPREP OS - A step towards studying in Osnabrück
Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences has been offering STUDYPREP OS for refugees since 2016. The program prepares refugees for academic studies in Osnabrück and is sponsored by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture (Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur/MWK).
Courses
STUDYPREP C1
The program is aimed at internationals who wish to study at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. A knowledge of the German language at B2-level is obligatory to participate. The aim of the course is to reach the C1-level necessary to take up studies in Germany. There will also be a focus on independent learning. Thus, the course offers a perfect preparation for the exam telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule. Participating in a module of the study program of your choice as a guest auditor is another part of the course and a tutorial is also obligatory. Participation in the program is free of charge.

- Course start: Monday, September 23, 2024
- End of course: Friday, July 4, 2025
- Lessons: 4 mornings a week, 10:00-13:30, tutorial and lecture/seminar may take place in the afternoon.
The course is based on the semester schedule of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences; the German course does not take place during the lecture-free periods of the summer and winter semesters.
This programm consists of 18 hours/week and a lecture or seminar. Thus, there will be the following modules:
- German language course: Intensive language course with 12 lessons/week
- Exam preparation (telc C1 Hochschule). The exam itself is not part of the program, but there will be an opportunity to take the exam at the university at the end of the course.
- Generic competences: An introduction to self-organized and responsible learning for successful studies
- Tutorial: Learning German in small groups with a student tutor of Osnabrück Universitiy of Applied Sciences (90 minutes once a week)
- Lecture/seminar of the study program of your choice (4 lessons a week)
The official application deadline for the C1 course is August 11, 2024. The required language certificate at B2 level can be submitted later.

Application
You are welcome to apply if you plan to study as a regular student at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and if you fulfill the following requirements:
- You come from abroad and have knowledge of the German language at the B2-level.
- You have a specific wish to take up a study program at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.
- You have a university entrance qualification for Germany (we will be happy to give you information on the university entrance qualification in the Center for International Students at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences)
To apply for STUDYPREP OS, please send us the following application documents:
- Application form
- Proof of your refugee status
- CV (translated into GER)
- Copy of your school leaving certificate (translated into GER or ENG)
- In case you have already studied: Copy of your university degree (translated into GER or ENG)
- Copy of your German certificate
- Letter of motivation: please explain why you would like to participate in STUDYPREP OS and what goals you would like to attain (approx. 150 words)
- The current course STUDYPREP C1 ends in July 2025.
- A new course STUDYPREP C1 will run from September 2025 until July 2026.
The language course C1 (18 hours/week) takes place: four mornings a week 10:00 - 13:30. The free morning will be announced at the start of the course. There are additional events (tutorial, seminars/lectures) that may take place in the afternoon. So participants must be flexible in their schedules.
C1: telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule
Yes. STUDYPREP OS is a study preparation program. Participants are required to take part in all modules. Participants who are frequently absent are not eligible to participate in STUDYPREP OS. The detailed attendance regulations will be discussed at the beginning of the program.
Yes. Participation in STUDYPREP OS is open to all prospective international students.
The course participation in STUDYPREP OS is free of charge.
The cost for the textbooks, the travel costs and examination fees have to be paid by the participants themselves.
The application deadline for STUDYPREP C1 is August 11, 2024.
