Your path to a Bachelor's degree in International Economics and Sustainability
Structure of the program
The Bachelor's degree in International Economics and Sustainability at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences comprises seven semesters. Students spend the fifth semester abroad. In the sixth semester they complete an 12-week internship.
Basics in semester 1 and 2
The courses in the first two semesters teach the basics of economics and business management.
Deepening of knowledge and Electives from 3rd semester onwards
From the third semester onwards, contents and topics are expanded, particularly in economic and quantitative areas. Elective courses, both at the Hochschule Osnabrück and at the foreign partner university, foster students to sharpen their individual profile. Students apply their specialist knowledge to specific economic policy issues. They also work on an empirical project. At last, they complete their nine-week final thesis.

In the sixth semester, you will study for a semester at one of the more than 150 partner and cooperation universities of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences.
The seventh semester includes the internship, in which students independently conduct an empirical study. The program ends with the Bachelor's thesis, which deals with practice-relevant topics in economics.
Electives
In the Applied Economics degree program, three modules must be selected as electives. This way, students are enabled to specialize in individual subject areas and develop their competences.
The following options are available as electives:
Specializations prepare graduates of the degree program for working in specific areas, especially when completing the semester abroad or the practical semester in the same subject area.
A specialization consists of three modules that can be selected as electives. Students in the Applied Economics degree program are recommended to choose courses out of the following specializations:
Specialization International Economics
- Module 1: International Economics (obligatory)
- Module 2: Current Issues in the Global Economy
- Module 3: Enterprise and Globalization
Specialization Financial Management
- Module 1: Principles of Corporate Financing
- Module 2: Financial Markets and Valuation
- Module 3: Asset Management / Merger Management
Specialization Sustainable Management and Development
The Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences offers over 30 degree programs. As part of the electives, students in the Aplied Economics program may take a broader view by choosing modules from other Bachelor degree programs.
Examples are "European Law" from the Business Law degree program, "Civil Society and Governance" from the Public Management degree program or "Management Tools" from the Business Management degree program.
Another option is to select quantitative modules such as "Operations Research" or "Data Mining" from the Business Information Management degree program to prepare for a Master degree program in Economics.
Besides English as compulsory language, students in the Applied Economics degree program may complete an additional foreign language as elective.
In this case, prior knowledge in Spanish, French, Dutch or Russian is required or has to be acquired in the first two semesters.
Students of Applied Economics can build up and expand their China competence in cooperation with the University Centre China. The following China-related courses can be taken as elective courses:
- China's economy
- Intercultural China competence
- Doing Business in China
- Language course Chinese 1 (for participants without previous knowledge)
- Language course Chinese 2
- Language course Chinese 3
Apart from this, the China University Centre offers a two-week Summer University Language and Culture of China in China every summer.
