Methods Consulting of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences
The Methods Consulting of the WiSo-IT supports members of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences (students, teachers and staff members) with methodical issues. We primarily give advise on questions about IT tools and quantative methods.
We offer individual consultations on problems and questions before and during the process of writing theses. Information sessions to certain topics during classes are also possible. Please contact us.
- Searching in literature databases: There are various specialist databases in the individual disciplines. We cannot know all the specialist databases, but can advise on searching.
- Citavi: Citavi is a tool for literature management. The University library manages the licences.
LimeSurvey: LimeSurvey is a web-based tool for online surveys. The University AS and the Faculty offer two installations. Please note the information about LimeSurvey in the Serviceportal. There, you also find information about access to the installations.
- Excel: Excel is a spreadsheet program from Microsoft. You can find information on installation in the Serviceportal.
- SPSS: SPSS is a desktop application for statistical analyses from IBM. You can find information in installation in the Serviceportal.
- R: R is a programming language for the analysis of quantitative data. A development environment and an interpreter can be downloaded an installed for free.
- MAXQDA: MAXQDA is a desktop application for qualitative data analyses. Members of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences can use MAXQDA via the virtual desktop of the faculty nutzen.
Descriptive and inferential statistical methods: In method consulting, we advise on various methods of descriptive and inferential statistics, e.g., frequency diagrams, t-tests, ANOVA, regression and correlation.
- Study designs: e.g., Longitudinal study, cross-sectional study, experiment,
- Sampling: e.g., convenience sample, for the sample size G*Power
- Word: Word is a text processing application from Microsoft. Please not the template for scientific theses in the intranet.
- PowerPoint: PowerPoint is an application for presentation slides. Vendor is Microsoft.
- Excel: Excel ist a spreadsheet application from Microsoft, which can be used to represent data in graphics and tables.

e.g. Consent: Consent is necessary for some surveys. The Ethics Committee has published relevant documents on the intranet that can be used in this context.
- ARIS Express: ARIS Express is a tool for business process management and process mining.
- Visual Paradigm: Visual Paradigm is a software to create different IT-related modells, e.g., UML diagrams. In the field of process management the software offers, among others, BPMN 2.0 and UML activity diagrams, which can also be used in other domains.
- Enterprise Architect: Enterprise Architect is a program for visualising, analysing, modelling, testing, and maintaining IT systems and processes. In the field of process models, the software offers BPMN 2.0 and UML.
- Adonis: Adonis is a software primarily to create a process architecture. For representing processes, Adonis uses the BPMN 2.0.
Members of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences can use these programs via the virtual desktop of the faculty.
MS Project: MS Project is a project management tool from Microsoft. Members of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences can use this program via the virtual desktop of the faculty.
Similarity: The university offers the Similarity program for plagiarism detection for lecturers. Access is not possible for students.

Consultation appointments
Consultation appointments are possible by individual arrangement. Please contact Mareike Przysucha regarding an appointment. She will forward your enquiry to the relevant member of staff.
The normal consultations take place on Tuesday and Friday by zoom or in person.
